Dean was born and raised in Logan, where he graduated from Logan High School. He received a BS in Finance and General Business from the Ohio University. While in college, Dean owned a roofing company.

When he graduated in 1994, Dean became a site supervisor in new home construction. In 2006, he started 1st Choice Homes.
